You are not the same as everyone else.
Every single one of us is different in our own specific way and we all have that one specific emotional trigger that maybe isn’t conventionally ‘triggering’ to someone else.
A lot of what you experience in your past returns in your life as an emotional trigger.
You might not even know what yours are (perhaps you don’t have any!) but often it’s something, someone or somewhere that taps into a trauma response, and puts you in an uncomfortable state, makes you feel upset or irritated. For example, maybe during your childhood you felt criticised and blamed by your parents. So as an adult, when someone gives you feedback on something, it’s triggering. You get offended, close up and don’t know how to respond.
Recognise that by breaking down trauma and learning actionable ways of how you can move through this pain, you’ll be much less affected by these triggers so deeply.
When we avoid these experiences or try to block them out, we’re suppressing the root cause, and when we do that, they can worsen.
It’s not easy but moving through the uncomfy-ness and understanding where it comes from will allow you to live a freer life.
