Want to know the secret to improving your game? Read on…
A study was conducted in 1996 at the University of Chicago on mental imagery.
A group of 30 basketball players were divided into three groups and asked to perform three separate tasks over a 30 day period.
The first group of 10 players were asked not to touch a basketball & no practice
The second group was asked to practice shooting free-throws for 30 minutes daily
The third group spent 30 minutes each day visualizing hitting every free-throw
The Results?
At the end of the trial, the first group not surprisingly, showed no improvement
When tested, the second group showed a 24% improvement achieving physical free-throws
The third group when tested showed a 23% improvement from mental rehearsal.
I am not condoning laziness one bit because actions do speak louder, what I am trying to drive home is to imagine what you can achieve implementing action AND the mental rehearsal techniques! Powerful stuff!
You can apply this to all sport, your business arena, strengthening relationships, health, the list goes on and as simple as this technique is, to activate fully you will need to include sight, sound and feeling which is where I specialise.
I would love to hear from you if you would like to learn more and remember to sign up to my mailing list to stay in touch!
